When Morons attack

Yep, Naked Politics on today's SCHIP vote:

Miami Republicans Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart just voted for a bill to expand health care to 4 million more children.

The measure passed by the House includes a provision sought by Lincoln Diaz-Balart to expand coverage to children of legal immigrants as well as pregnant immigrants. Under current law, legal immigrants must wait 5 years for coverage. "The law should not discriminate against legal immigrants; health care is too important an issue," he said.

Somewhere out there, Joe Garcia, Annette Taddeo, and of course, Raul Martinez are laughing cynically. Despite losing, they have forced the Trident of Idiocy to change their vote on something they railed against for a variety of reasons.

Let me focus my attention on the biggest ass of the troika- Mario Diaz-Balart. Here's what he said to the Miami Herald last year:

Boxes of cigars labeled Partagás, Cohiba and Padrón rise from floor to ceiling. A table for dominoes invites smokers with time to spare. Buy a humidor, bottle of wine or guayabera to complete the look of old Havana.

''Take a picture,'' quipped U.S. Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, one of three Miami Republicans who oppose legislation expanding a popular children's health-insurance program, partly because it relies on higher cigar taxes. ``They're not going to be around much longer.''

OH NO! Children's health care is going to take away cigars! But here's the kicker folks

In a flame-fanning tirade on Spanish-language radio last week, Díaz-Balart called the tax hike an ''attack on the Cuban-American community.'' He added: ``It would hurt an industry specifically in Miami-Dade, in South Florida, an industry that is almost entirely Hispanic: those who make cigars by hand, which is a cultural tradition. That industry will not survive.''

Ladies and Gentlemen, today Mario Diaz-Balart and his brother attacked the whole Cuban-American community. Yeah, talking outta your ass I've found, always bites you there.

They opposed it originally because it excluded legal immigrant children. They voted against it because it discriminated a lot of people in their district. Now they can vote for it because it doesnt discriminate anymore thanks to Diaz-Balart. The trio of unsuccessful challengers just picked on it assuming the people were ignorant, but they were wrong, and they were send packing.
Stop trying to deceive people with irrational petty partisan blog posts. Have some respect for the intelligence of those who might stumble upon this.
