Al From meets an inverse universe.

Politico today, has a piece in their Arena section, which is usually interesting. But the first person in the piece is DLC leader Al From. Here's what he says:

Rather than leave our fate to Republican failure, a number of leading Democrats formed the Democratic Leadership Council with the express purpose of restoring our party's sense of national purpose. Our formula was straightforward. We believed that if we held firmly to the first principles of the Democratic Party - opportunity, responsibility, national strength, and reform - but furthered those principles with fresh ideas and modern means; if we built a modern, centrist, progressive Democratic Party that tackled America's most difficult challenges with bold and innovative ideas, the American people would once again turn to us for national leadership.

The road for our party was not always smooth. We fought over ideas and strategies. There were times that the party was terribly divided. But in the end we forged a modern progressive centrist agenda that helped Bill Clinton to win the White House in 1992 and govern successfully in the 1990s, bringing America eight years of peace and prosperity. And now President Obama has built on that foundation to become only the third Democrat other than Franklin Roosevelt to win the White House with a majority of the popular vote. With a successful Obama presidency, Democrats - in the political wilderness a quarter century ago - can secure an enduring political and governing majority.

Let's go over this credit claiming slowly.

"but furthered those principles with fresh ideas and modern means; if we built a modern, centrist, progressive Democratic Party that tackled America's most difficult challenges with bold and innovative ideas,"

If by fresh ideas and modern means you mean we were bribed by major companies, I agree. If by modern centrist, progressive you can figure out what the hell that means, that'd be great. You were centrist and that was about it. The only thing progressive about the DLC is that they use the word now. How can a CENTRIST party have bold and innovative ideas, when it's a compromising one?

But in the end we forged a modern progressive centrist agenda that helped Bill Clinton to win the White House in 1992 and govern successfully in the 1990s, bringing America eight years of peace and prosperity.

Erm, except your whatever the hell modern progressive centrist means agenda, also made Democrats get killed in 1994, and as such you didn' really govern. The Republicans as I remember beat the crap out of you on a number of issues and twisted your arms on a number of issues.

And now President Obama has built on that foundation
That's shocking. Really? Obama's the DLC candidate? I thought it was Hillary! I thought that was why Carville and Begala were crapping themselves and chewing at Obama during the Primary? It's why the majority of your members backed her. And why Begala in an interview called Obama the Howard Dean candidate of 2008. A flash in the pan type. While the DLC may have it's guy in Tim Kaine, Dean's 50 state strategy is why we won. The DLC [led by Rahm] HATES Dean. Look how he didn't get a Cabinet post! So let's not start taking credit for things you had nothing to do with, Al.

oh and also from the article I enjoyed this

James Carafano, Heritage Foundation, Defense and Homeland Security:

Why not just to stick to things like "common sense" and "principles."

Because what the Heritage foundation believes in is what most Americans think is lacking in common sense and does not represent their principles?
