The Florida Democratic Party is trumpeting the latest voter registration figures, which show that nearly 40 percent of the voters who have registered since the 2008 election checked Democrat. Only 26 percent of new voters picked the GOP.From what I hear of local outfits like ACORN, DFAM and the Democrats of South Dade Club, even older Cubans are registering at higher levels as Democrats. The voter registration events are leading to a pattern of most in the 30's registering as Democrats. The average day brings a 2.5 to 1 voter registration advantage for Democrats. If we can keep that momentum up, it's going to be a bright day in Florida.
But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."
